PUTRAJAYA: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, emphasized that reasonable wages will be the government’s primary focus as Malaysia strives to create a sustainable economy. He highlighted that it would be illogical to attract investments worth hundreds of billions of ringgit if wages continue to remain stagnant. In his address on National Day, Anwar affirmed that it is unreasonable for workers to be paid wages similar to those from the 1980s and 1990s. Despite facing economic constraints, the government is currently working on a salary system overhaul and adjustments for civil servants. Anwar mentioned that a progressive wage policy is under consideration for workers in the public sector.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that efforts are being made to reinforce the economy, and soon a mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan will be conducted. During this review, not only will the previous plans be evaluated, but necessary changes will also be made to ensure a shift in growth and development, he explained.
