The supply of chicken and eggs should not be disrupted due to government “technicalities,” according to Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. The MCA president recently met with the Johor Small and Medium Poultry Farmers Association in Johor Baru, led by president Lim Ka Cheng.
Attending the meeting were deputy treasurer Ho Tong Ceng and internal auditor Wong Chung Yuong. In a Facebook post on Saturday (March 17), Dr. Wee said he highlighted the issues faced by poultry farmers in the Dewan Rakyat’s special chamber, with the current discussion focusing on long-term solutions.
Dr. Wee mentioned that the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry mandates chicken farmers to apply for planning permission with local authorities, even if their coops are outside the council’s jurisdiction. The ministry also requires entrepreneurs to implement closed cages according to specific timelines.
The Ayer Hitam MP emphasized the importance of maintaining sufficient supply of chickens and eggs. He assured that compliance with the government’s directives will not disrupt the supply chain or significantly escalate production costs to meet technical requirements.
