KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reiterated his commitment to improving the country’s governance in order to eliminate corruption and inefficiency.
He highlighted the importance of good governance in attracting investments, fostering a favorable business environment, and ensuring the safety of the people and the nation’s borders.

In a meeting with department heads and financial crime enforcement agencies at the Finance Ministry, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, emphasized the urgency of the issue.
He stated, “The country suffers an annual revenue loss of RM5 billion and financial crimes contribute to a shadow economy that causes an estimated loss of tax revenue of RM70 billion per year.”
Anwar recognized the increasing complexity of financial crime and called for government agencies to proactively cooperate and work more effectively.
He shared his intention to enhance legal practices relating to the management of confiscated and forfeited assets to align with international governance standards.
Anwar underlined the need for the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC) to improve its monitoring operations and ensure continuous progress.
Expressing his gratitude towards the agencies involved in combating financial crime, Anwar urged the people to actively participate and assist in these efforts.
He emphasized the collective responsibility to uphold integrity and elevate the nation’s reputation.
