KOTA TINGGI: Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has announced that three mosques under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) will be launching the “#GengSubuhMacamJumaat” programme starting from Friday (Jan 27). The initiative is part of the mosque-enlivening drive supported by the government.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) stated that the government is backing the recent trend of performing Subuh (dawn) prayer in mass congregations, popularized by Alif Satar and the Johor government. “We will adopt the ‘#GengSubuhMacamJumaat’ tagline and continue to support these initiatives,” he said.

“To begin with, three mosques under the ministry— the National Mosque, the Putra Mosque, and the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque— will commence the mass fajr prayer programme. This will also align with the Semarak Subuh programme launched by the Johor government on Jan 5, which will take place every Friday morning throughout the year,” he added.

Na’im made these comments after giving out aid to flood victims at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Sungai Telor on Sunday (Jan 21). He also mentioned the government’s plan to expand the programme to other states.

“We will continue to support such significant initiatives, especially those that can attract people to do good. We also hope to see more young leaders drawing in the younger generation to take part,” he said. “We have also invited Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid to join our ‘Subuh Macam Jumaat’ programme this coming Friday,” he added.
