Deputy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that the Local Government Development Ministry will be providing assistance to Johor in addressing the issue involving over 10,000 squatter houses. He mentioned that a special task force has been established, which he co-chairs with Johor state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.
Nasir emphasized that there are approximately 10,000 squatter houses in Johor and that the task force will discuss the specific details of the issue. He also expressed the intention to work jointly with the state to find a solution to reduce the number of squatter houses, including the potential relocation of squatters to a People’s Housing Programme (PPR) unit. This statement was made during a press conference after the handing-over ceremony of the Cahaya Senibong PPR on December 3.
It was also mentioned that there are 21 PPR projects in Johor, with 13 of them already completed and six still under construction. Nasir expressed hope that the state government would allocate some of the units at the PPR for the relocation of squatters.
The article reported that out of the 10,301 units of squatter houses, 8,793 are located in Johor Baru, while 522 and 503 are in Batu Pahat and Pontian, respectively, with the rest distributed among the other seven districts. This information was provided by Bernama.
