The government intends to simplify the criteria for individuals with disabilities (PWD) to join technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs, in order to enhance accessibility for them.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister, stated that he will convey this message to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who leads the TVET Council, to implement this initiative.
“I will inform him that while there is some flexibility for PwDs presently, we should not set the requirements too rigidly, such as mandating the possession of both hands. The criteria should be based on the capabilities of the individuals, and thus we are willing to provide some leeway,” Anwar said in response to a participant’s inquiry during the ‘Temu Anwar’ dialogue program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai on Sunday (Sept 3).
The participant, who was a UTM alumnus with disabilities, inquired about the government’s efforts to allocate 1% of public service job opportunities to the PWD group, and also stressed the importance of reviewing the eligibility criteria for PwDs to enroll in TVET programs.
Additional information will be provided in the future.
