KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the approval process for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure will be enhanced. This decision was made at the 42nd National Physical Planning Council (MPFN) meeting. Anwar highlighted the significance of having sufficient charging infrastructure for the transformation of the automotive sector. In line with this, the government has committed to constructing 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025, as there are currently only 1,246 operational stations. Anwar also discussed the development of a national geopark, stating that the National Geopark Development Plan 2021-2030 and the National Geopark Implementation Plan will serve as the management and development frameworks. The proposed geopark will be a partnership between a Federal agency and a state government. Additionally, the government has agreed to approve a policy for town and city development along the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) route. This “Land Use Master Plan for the ECRL” will guide long-term development around the 20 stations and throughout the ECRL route. The document is expected to attract investments and promote sustainable development, creating a balance between the east and west coasts of the country.
