The Malaysian government has expressed its support for the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, emphasized the urgency of the situation in Gaza and the importance of providing assistance without delays. He acknowledged that the resolution was significant and emphasized that the support for the resolution came from various countries, including non-Muslim nations.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution on Friday with 120 votes in favor, 14 against, and 45 abstentions. This resolution aims to address the critical humanitarian issues faced by the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.

Mohd Na’im commended the Malaysian public for their solidarity and called for the continuation of efforts in supporting the cause. However, he also cautioned against fraudulent activities and advised people to contribute through authorized channels to prevent exploitation from irresponsible parties attempting to take advantage of the situation.

Furthermore, Mohd Na’im discussed the establishment of a sub-committee within the Interfaith Harmony Committee (Harmoni) to propose and implement unity-based programs. The committee, approved by the Cabinet, aims to promote national unity among Malaysians.

With 30 members representing the government, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Taoism, the committee holds significant responsibility in fostering unity and demonstrating its value to society.

During his visit to the “asnaf (zakat recipients)” group, Mohd Na’im explained that the initiative aims to assist and monitor the coordination of aid provided to recipients under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP). The visitation program ensures that the assistance received helps alleviate the burdens faced by the recipients.

This visitation program is part of the Malaysian government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and resisting external pressure. Malaysia remains steadfast in its support for the Palestinian people and will continue to advocate for their rights.
