Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim noted that the government’s initial reforms have resulted in increased investments and garnered international praise for the determination displayed by the government, public sector, and civil servants in achieving this progress.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted one of the key reforms as the introduction of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2023. This act aims to enhance the government’s fiscal discipline and ensure a more efficient management of the country’s economy.

He explained that the FRA entails delegating some of the Finance Minister’s tasks to be directly overseen by Parliament, limiting the Minister’s freedom in decision making. Anwar believes that this measure will enhance public and investor confidence both locally and internationally.
Anwar stressed the importance of correcting financial management, reducing deficits, and conducting budget management prudently to address the country’s high debt levels effectively.

He emphasized that his administration has focused on governance since the beginning, with a strong commitment to fighting corruption. Anwar acknowledged debates on governance issues and the need to combat corruption rigorously, rejecting suggestions to adopt a lenient approach.

Anwar expressed confidence in Malaysia’s ability to advance to a fully developed country, emphasizing the importance of leadership with integrity and civil servants dedicated to driving change.
