The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) manifesto for the Jepak by-election will focus primarily on development issues in the area, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Awang Tengah Ali Hassan. He stated on Sunday (Oct 22) that the manifesto, which will soon be launched, will also address the government’s future planning for Jepak. When asked about other items included in the manifesto, Awang declined to reveal details.

GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee mentioned that based on the feedback he received, Jepak voters have pledged their support for GPS in the by-election. He stated, “Some called me personally to show their support for GPS while others told me during my visit to the constituency.” During the two-week campaigning period, GPS component parties, including Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), will also support the party.

In the three-cornered fight for the seat, Iskandar, 54, will compete against contenders Stevenson Joseph Sumbang of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Chieng Lea Ping of People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi). The Election Commission (EC) has set November 4 as the polling day for this by-election.
