IPOH: A raid at an entertainment centre here led to the arrest of 12 foreign women working as guest relations officers (GROs).

Perak Immigration Department director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abd Malik said the Vietnamese women were entertaining customers when officers raided the centre.

“The GROs were not aware of the presence of the officers, and thus they failed to escape.

“Also nabbed were four men from Myanmar working as waiters at the premises,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (Aug 8).

They were part of a larger group of 33 foreigners, aged between 17 and 40, detained for violating their travel passes and for overstaying.

The raid, which targeted several locations including a restaurant and a car wash in the Kinta Valley, was part of “Ops Gegar, Selera and Minyak,” conducted from 7pm on Aug 7 to 12.20am on Aug 8.

All detainees have been taken to the Ipoh detention depot for further investigation under Sections 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Investigations are also being conducted under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
