Three men have indicated their innocence after being charged with extorting RM283,000 from a teenager, as they pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur. The accused individuals are Yap Ming Shuia, a grocery store assistant, as well as traders Low Kah Wei and Ivan Heah Khai Yee. They allegedly committed the offence alongside another individual who remains at large.
The defendants are accused of intentionally influencing an 18-year-old male victim to conduct an online transaction amounting to RM283,000 through multiple bank accounts at a condominium in Bandar Bukit Jalil, Cheras. The transactions occurred at 11:06 am on September 29 and 12:30 pm on October 3.
The charge has been framed under Section 384 of the Penal Code, coupled with Section 34 of the same law. If found guilty, the offenders could face a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Judge Norina Zainol Abidin granted bail of RM30,000 with one surety for each of the accused, and additionally ordered them and their family members not to intimidate witnesses involved in the case. The court has scheduled a mention of the case for November 20.
Deputy public prosecutor Nidzuwan Abd Latip handled the prosecution, while Yap and Low were represented by lawyer P. Muniswer. Heah was represented by lawyer Navinjit Singh. – Bernama
