KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is calling for action to be taken against the individuals responsible for spreading false allegations linking Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s family to a recently busted Sabah drug cartel. GRS information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan (pic) urged the police to identify the culprit behind the baseless accusations implicating Hajiji’s son in the drug cartel.

Nizam stated, “The accusations are not only false and wild but also an offence for defaming the good name of our Chief Minister’s family. It is clearly a disgusting act and spreading such falsehood is an attempt to not only put the Chief Minister in a bad light but also GRS and Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) which he leads,” in a statement on Monday (Jan 15).
Nizam also suggested that such dirty tactics might have been employed by a political party attempting to overthrow the state government. He condemned the fabrication of stories by those who have run out of political capital and accused them of using slanderous tactics.

He emphasized that the people are wise and will reject any party resorting to dirty tactics in spreading slander. On Jan 14, Hajiji’s son Mohammad Reza lodged a police report to deny his involvement in any drug cartel, and police have confirmed that an investigation is underway.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced on Dec 26 that police had dismantled a major drug syndicate operating in Sabah with the apprehension of the kingpin, a “Datuk Seri” who is also a patron of a little-known NGO.
