ALOR SETAR: Muslims have a responsibility to protect the political power it has for the sake of the ummah, says PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Abdul Hadi said it was compulsory for every Muslim to protect whatever political power it had as it was a big obligation in the religion.

“So we have a big responsibility in defending Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

“We should also try to take over the other three states in the state election, it is a big task for us,” he said during the launch of the Kedah manifesto at Dataran Darul Aman here on Wednesday (Aug 2).

He said Islam was not only about praying, going to Mecca, fasting, or giving alms as it also involved having a power in politics so that the welfare of the people could be taken care of.

He questioned why some of the Malays felt political power was not needed by the community when it was the most basic thing every Muslim should know.

“Without political power, Islam will not be respected, when Islam is not respected, the religion will crumble into non-existence,” he said.

Earlier the state Perikatan Nasional unveiled 17 offers in its manifesto for the state polls.

Among its promises were good governance and strengthening of state administration, an emphasis on justice, enhancing the efficiency of leadership institutions for representatives at various levels of government, and creating 100,000 competitive job opportunities over the next 30 years.

The manifesto also included establishing mosques as the main centres for community activities, religious activities, and welfare; and fostering good values in society through cooperation involving educational institutions and non-governmental organisations in each area.

Other proposals include providing affordable residential land titles for low-income groups, offering low-cost and affordable homes, rehabilitating 1,000 housing units for the less fortunate every year, and addressing issues related to clean water supply in the state.

The offer also promised to ensure high impact investments in Kedah with a target of RM10bil a year in Kedah Plan 2035.
