PETALING JAYA: According to Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying, the Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith module will exclusively be for Muslim students and will not involve non-Muslim students. She acknowledged the concerns of the non-Muslim community on the matter. Lim stated, “Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek at the Post-Cabinet Meeting yesterday gave an assurance that the module will only be used by Muslim students, and will not involve non-Muslim students.” In a statement on Thursday (Aug 24), she added, “I understand the anxiety of the non-Muslim community on this issue. However, they do not need to worry because this module applies to Muslim students only and will not involve non-Muslim students at all.”
Lim emphasized that the module will solely be introduced to national schools and schools under the ministry for Muslim students. She confirmed, “No non-Muslim students will be involved in learning this module. Non-Muslim students, just like now, will continue to attend Moral Education classes.” The Deputy Education Minister also stressed that the Ministry is determined to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all students from diverse backgrounds, races, and religions. She stated, “The Ministry is determined to ensure that all students from various backgrounds, races and religions are always treated fairly and equitably.”
Furthermore, Lim assured that while Muslim students will receive appropriate religious education, the rights and freedoms of non-Muslim students will always be safeguarded as guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.
