KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has emphasized the importance of integrity in implementing initiatives to develop the state. He believes that corruption-free practices among civil servants and the private sector will lead to more effective and efficient development plans under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) concept.
In order to achieve corruption-free practices and strengthen integrity, Hajiji stresses the need for commitment and cooperation from all parties, including leaders, civil servants, private sector officials, workers, individuals, and family institutions. The state government is committed to allocating greater funding to three main areas of economic growth, namely agriculture, industrialisation, and tourism; human capital and people’s well-being; and infrastructure connectivity and green sustainability, in alignment with the SMJ development plan.
Hajiji explains that these efforts are aimed at ensuring Sabah’s continued growth and development, bringing it on par with other more developed states in the country. His message was delivered by State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong during the closure of a seminar on integrity at Lintasan Deasoka.
He highlights the significance of integrity and accountability within the public service, particularly in the post-pandemic era where economic recovery is ongoing. A strong culture of integrity can lead to a more efficient, productive, and ethical workforce.
Hajiji believes that integrity is a multi-faceted matter, encompassing various aspects such as how people present themselves, their personal conduct, and decision-making processes. Without integrity, there is a risk of leakages, wastage, and failed plans, which can damage the government’s reputation and erode public trust.
He emphasizes the importance of people’s confidence and trust in the government to ensure the effective implementation of policies. Such trust plays a crucial role in achieving the desired outcomes of government plans and missions.
