A religious school in Pontian experienced a fire incident on the early morning of Sunday, September 17.
Mahadir Mamat, the operation commander of the Pontian fire and rescue department, reported that they were informed about the fire at SMKA Bugisiah in Kampung Tompok Laut around 4.13am.
“Upon receipt of the call from one of the school’s staff, a total of 16 firemen from the Pontian and Renggit fire stations were dispatched,” he said.
Upon arrival, the firefighters observed that the school’s hall was completely consumed by the fire.
“Thankfully, no one was in the building at the time. No fatalities or injuries were reported,” Mamat stated.
The fire-fighting operation concluded at approximately 10.16am.
“Around 90% of the building sustained damage as a result of the blaze. We are currently investigating the cause and estimating total losses,” he mentioned.
