KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian Harith Iskander and Dr Jezamine Lim have officially divorced.
Harith, 58, uttered the “talak satu” (divorce proclamation) at about 12.05pm in a brief closed door proceedings at the Lower Syariah Court here on Thursday (July 25).
The former couple arrived in separate black MPVs but walked to the courtroom together.
Earlier, lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, who represented the couple, requested for the court to hold the proceedings behind closed doors.
“As the two of them are public figures, they do not want to share their marital woes with the public,” he said.
Syarie judge Siti Noraini Mohd Ali allowed the oral application.
After proceedings ended, Akberdin told the press that the mutual divorce application was allowed by the court.
“The second application before the court just now was on child support.
“It was also settled amicably,” Akberdin said.
On the custody of children (hadhanah), Akberdin said the application needed to be endorsed by the Syariah High Court.
“Unfortunately, the High Court could not entertain us today as they have other cases so the hadhanah application will be heard next week,” he added.
When met outside the courtroom, Jezamine told the press that both she and Harith were “in a better place now”.
“He is still my best friend and I am still managing his career,” she said.
Harith and Jezamine, 41, were married on June 12, 2010.
She filed for divorce on July 8.
The couple share three children – Zander Xayne, 14, Alessandra Jayne, 11 and Zydane Zayne, nine.
