Ten locations in Peninsular Malaysia have recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 9am on Monday (Oct 9), according to the Environment Department (DOE).

Data from the DOE’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) website reveals that Selangor has the highest number of locations reporting unhealthy API.

The locations are Banting with an API reading of 157, Klang with 154, Shah Alam with 153, Johan Setia with 152, and Petaling Jaya with 137.

The other locations with API readings exceeding 100 are Batu Pahat in Johor with 107, Bukit Rambai in Melaka with 153, Nilai in Negri Sembilan with 152, Putrajaya with 105, and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur with 157.

Meanwhile, the APIMS website data reveals that three locations in the country have good air quality with an API of less than 50.

These include Sibu with 45 and Sri Aman with 44 in Sarawak, as well as Kimanis in Sabah with 45, and Kota Baru in Kelantan with 49.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
