The Health Ministry is advising the public to take preventive measures following the higher Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in certain areas.
According to the director-general of the Health Ministry, Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, preventive measures include limiting outdoor activities and wearing masks when going out.
Dr Muhammad Radzi also highlighted the importance of staying hydrated and suggested drinking at least eight glasses of water even if one does not feel thirsty.
Other preventive measures advised by Dr Muhammad Radzi include closing windows and avoiding smoking indoors, as smoking can contribute to increased air pollution.
The Health Ministry will continue to monitor haze-related diseases by conducting regular checks at sentinel clinics.
Dr Muhammad Radzi urged individuals who are feeling unwell to seek treatment at the nearest health facility. The list of preventive measures can be obtained from the ministry’s official website.
Additionally, the public is advised to monitor air quality levels in their respective areas by visiting the Department of Environment’s (DoE) official website.
As of 4pm on Monday, 12 areas in Malaysia recorded API readings at unhealthy levels. Nilai in Negri Sembilan had the highest API reading of 162.
The Air Pollutant Index categorizes readings as follows: 0 to 50 (good), 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy), and 300 and above (hazardous).
