The Health Ministry has initiated a survey to collect public feedback regarding the generational endgame, which will prohibit the sale of tobacco products to individuals born on or after January 1, 2007.

The survey is accessible to all Malaysians through the MySejahtera app as of Wednesday, October 11. To participate, the app can be downloaded or updated via the Google Play store for Android users or the Apple App Store for iOS users.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry stated that the survey encompasses various topics, including public opinion on smoking-related health risks, the generational endgame provision, and the Control of Tobacco Products for Public Health Bill 2023.

Furthermore, the ministry clarified that the generational endgame will not impact current smokers or vapers. However, it will establish a generation of Malaysians safeguarded against nicotine addiction and the detrimental consequences of smoking throughout their lives.

The generational endgame represents one of the provisions included in the finalization of the Control of Tobacco Products for Public Health Bill 2023.

“The Bill aims to implement comprehensive regulations covering all types of smoking products, including electronic cigarettes and vape,” emphasized the ministry.

Additionally, the ministry highlighted that the current regulations under the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations (CTPR) 2004 solely govern tobacco-based smoking products.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa encouraged all Malaysians to complete the survey, asserting that everyone has a responsibility to support the government’s efforts in presenting this Bill and the generational endgame provision through the survey.

Dr Zaliha described the provision as a bold piece of legislation that possesses the potential to significantly contribute to the reduction of tobacco usage and smoking-related fatalities in Malaysia.

“This is how we will safeguard our youth, loved ones, and those around us from the hazards of smoking by preventing addiction in the first place,” Dr Zaliha added.
