KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has set April 24 as the date for its decision on the appeal of Rumah Bonda founder, Siti Bainun Ahd Razali, who was found guilty of neglecting and abusing a teenage girl with Down Syndrome known as Bella.
Judge Datuk Noorin Badaruddin scheduled the date on Thursday (March 7) after hearing arguments from lawyers representing Siti Bainun as the appellant, and from Deputy Public Prosecutors.
Noorin stated, “The court has reviewed all submissions from both sides. As a result, I will deliver a brief judgment on that date,” during the hearing pertaining to the conviction.
On May 3, 2023, Sessions Court Judge Izralizam Sanusi mandated that Siti Bainun be sent to Kajang Prison to serve a 12-year prison term immediately, after rejecting her plea to postpone the sentence.
Siti Bainun, who was convicted of mistreating Bella, 13, in a condo unit in Wangsa Maju from February to June 2021, was also instructed to sign an RM5,000 good behavior bond for five years with a guarantor.
Additionally, she was ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service within six months of completing her prison sentence.
On May 23, 2023, the High Court dismissed Siti Bainun’s request to delay her jail sentence, citing the absence of any extraordinary circumstances to warrant such action. – Bernama
