According to Johor exco member Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, two meetings will be held with Putrajaya in the near future to address the issue of traffic congestion in and around Johor Baru.
Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh, who is the chairman of the works, transportation, infrastructure, and communications committee, stated that the first meeting, scheduled for February 29, will be headed by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He mentioned that the state government has formed a task force, with support from the Transport Ministry, to tackle the problem of traffic congestion.
The committee has already met with various agencies, including the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda), the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), and the police.
“We are currently compiling all the suggestions received, which will then be presented to Loke during the meeting,” Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said during a press conference following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony in Iskandar Puteri on Tuesday (Feb 13).
Following the meeting with Loke, the next one will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on March 6, according to Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
“Our objective is to reduce the number of private vehicles in and around Johor Baru, which will undoubtedly contribute to relieving congestion,” he stated.
He also stressed the need to first enhance public transportation, encompassing all modes of travel such as buses, taxis, and trains, in order to achieve this.
