The lack of significant rainfall resulted in no major flooding or damage along the coast in Port Klang during the high tide phenomenon yesterday morning, according to Klang Municipal Council (MPK) acting deputy president Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin. He stated that at 7.30am, the council’s Swift Action Task Force (Pantas) reported water overflow on the road to Bagan Hailam, but no residences were affected. Zaireezal added that there was no rainfall at the location even though the water reached 5.7m at 6.31am.
At 7.07am, Pantas reported water flowing onto Jalan Syahbandar at South Port Terminal in Port Klang when the tide reached 5.7m in the area. However, no rainfall or incidents were reported there. Zaireezal mentioned that the Drainage and Irrigation Department would continue monitoring water levels and providing updates. Pantas will also conduct daily patrols and monitor critical and vulnerable areas such as fishing ports until October 3, which includes locations like fishing jetties in Kampung Tok Muda, Jalan Othman Baru in Rantau Panjang, Sungai Keramat at Jalan Wan Hassan, Taman Telok Gedung, and Tanjung Harapan’s surrounding area.
A previous report by StarMetro on September 28 revealed that the National Hydrographic Centre in Port Klang had forecasted the high tide phenomenon for early mornings over four days. Razif Mohamad Haris, the chief of the Port Klang Fire and Rescue Station, advised residents near rivers and coastal areas to remain vigilant, especially during continuous rain coinciding with high tide. He also recommended residents in high-risk areas to follow instructions issued by authorities in the event of flash floods.
