KOTA KINABALU: Two siblings who got lost while hiking in the Beaufort district have been found safe after their calls for help were answered.

The duo, Pugalagan Subramaniam and Kanthan Subramaniam, both in their 20s, had gone hiking at Bukit Bendera when they accidentally strayed from the track on Sunday (Aug 6).

Beaufort Fire Station chief Mohammad Hasbullah Nenggok said the two men, who are from Peninsular Malaysia, then called for help from their friend who is a fireman.

“We received a report about the missing duo at 7.06pm and a team was sent to locate them,” he said in a statement late Sunday.

He said the two men were found at 8pm, some 1km off the designated hiking trail.

“Both are safe and well,” Hasbullah said, adding both men went back to their activities after that.

In another case, the search for a hunter who went missing in a jungle in Ranau district has officially ended after a six-day operation which failed to locate the victim.

Ranau fire station chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said the search operation mounted together with the police, civil defence officials and villagers, among others, officially ended at 8am on Aug 7.

“We will restart or resume the search for the victim if there are any new leads. For now, we have to end our search,” he said in a statement on Monday (Aug 7).

The victim, Jurin Sahantoh, 62, was last seen on July 21, when he left to go hunting in a jungle not far from his home of Kg Patau.
