KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has revealed that the government is currently reviewing 9,539 citizenship applications for potential approval as of September this year.
Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that the Home Ministry is committed to treating each application for citizenship fairly and without bias.
He also highlighted that the awarding of Malaysian citizenship to non-citizens is considered the highest honor and an exclusive right of the Federal Government, and it is not granted arbitrarily.
Furthermore, the government has finalized the draft Amendment to Part III of the Federal Constitution related to citizenship, which will be presented to the Rulers’ Council in the current month.
“During the Madani KDN program at the Bandar Tun Razak Sports Complex on Sunday (Oct 1), I also handed over the decision letters of citizenship applications to 19 applicants,” said Saifuddin Nasution during a press conference.
Additional updates will be provided.
