A man, aged 48, who claimed to have become homeless after being robbed while on vacation in Sabah, has been ordered to complete a month of community service for trespassing into the Marina Sutera Harbour golf course in Kota Kinabalu.
Mansor Chee Man, originally from Kulim, Kedah, informed Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles that he lost all his money after being robbed, which led to his homelessness.
When questioned by Magistrate Lovely, Mansor stated that he had a job, implying that he had a means of traveling without money.
Mansor also claimed that he was unaware that he had entered a restricted area at the golf course.
Police prosecutor, Insp Kelvan Elson Maik, confirmed in court that Mansor was indeed robbed on May 26, 2023.
Mansor pleaded guilty to trespassing on the Marina Sutera Harbour golf course at approximately 2:50 am on August 15, 2023.
The offense falls under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both.
In light of his guilty plea, Magistrate Lovely issued a one-month compulsory attendance order for community service.
Representing Mansor was Carmen Khoo from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who requested leniency from the court due to Mansor being a first-time offender and lacking the funds to pay the fine.
