The Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital (HTSMTI) in Kulai experienced an unusually high number of patients on Wednesday (July 19) after the closure of the Kulai Health Clinic for the public holiday of Awal Muharram. The daily average of 260 patients was exceeded, causing a strain on the hospital’s resources.
In response to a dissatisfied visitor’s claims, Johor Health director Dr Mohtar Pungut@Ahmad stated that the Johor State Health Department (JKNJ) had conducted a review. The claims were made by Zalina Abd Rahman on Facebook, and the post quickly gained traction on the Kulai Residents Facebook page. The hospital examined the patient’s registration record and discovered that initial screenings had classified the patient’s condition as mild. They were asked to wait in the green zone, but decided to leave and return the next day. Eventually, the patient was admitted to the ward for further treatment.
Dr Mohtar explained that the hospital’s emergency and trauma unit usually sees an average of 150 patients per day, with approximately 50 patients per shift. He concluded by offering advice to patients who encounter difficulties when seeking treatment. They are encouraged to contact the supervisor on duty for more information and assistance.
A Facebook post criticizing the hospital’s slow emergency services went viral. It specifically highlighted the lengthy wait times for treatment, including for children who waited for three hours.
