PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Human Resources is taking the lead in forming a committee that includes various ministries and stakeholders to establish a Gig Workers Commission.
In a statement released on Monday (March 4), the ministry expressed its support for the creation of a commission dedicated to safeguarding the rights of gig workers, with a focus on social protection, resolving contract disputes, and promoting career progression.
The committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of the terms of reference for the Commission, encompassing functional, legal, financial, and membership aspects.
“An interim report detailing the progress made will be submitted to the Cabinet within the next three months,” the statement added.
The formation of the Gig Workers Commission was announced by Anwar during a speech at the conclusion of the Bumiputera Economic Congress 2024 held in Putrajaya on Saturday.
