The 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was celebrated with a grand reception in Kuala Lumpur. The event took place at the Kuala Lumpur Shangri-La hotel and was attended by hundreds of guests dressed in traditional or formal attire. Two giant panda sculptures named Fu Wa and Feng Yi, which were loaned from China to Malaysia in 2014 for a period of ten years, were prominently displayed in the reception hall.
The guests were treated to a mesmerizing traditional dance performance featuring a dozen dancers wearing costumes with plum blossom designs. Transport Minister Anthony Loke and China Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing both delivered toasts, expressing their wishes for the success of their respective governments and emphasizing the importance of the strong friendship between the two countries.
During the reception, a multiracial choir performed the national anthems of both China and Malaysia, with the guests standing in respect. Ouyang expressed his hope for the continued cooperation between China and Malaysia and raised a toast to the prosperity and well-being of both nations.
Ouyang remarked, “Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, and it will be a significant milestone for both countries. Let us raise a toast and wish for the prosperity of both Malaysia and China, as well as the happiness and well-being of our people. Let us wish for a bright future ahead for China-Malaysia relations.”
A four-tier cake adorned with edible gold Chinese-style decorations, including plum blossom-shaped embellishments, was unveiled during the reception. The cake was also topped with a large Chinese flag attached to a flagpole.
In addition to government officials, the reception was graced by the presence of Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, and Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
