IPOH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he welcomed Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s apology over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal in good faith, as any leader should.
However, he said there were some parties who did not take it well when he commented “terima baik” (well received).
“I am the Prime Minister, I am the ‘bapa negara’ (father of the nation). When someone offers their apology, what do you want me to do?
“So I said that the apology is well received but then we have certain people saying they cannot accept it. What sort of behaviour is this?” he said during his speech at the Perak PKR convention held at a hotel here on Sunday (Oct 27).
On Thursday (Oct 24), Najib apologised to all Malaysians over the 1MDB scandal which took place when he was prime minister and finance minister.
In a statement read out by his son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Najib said he decided to issue the apology after much reflection during his 26 months in jail.
Anwar added that the case is being heard by the court, so let the court handle the matter.
“Matters pertaining to the Pardons Board are under the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“When someone makes a sincere statement, we must receive it sincerely. That is an example of good leadership,” he said.
