Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal has denied allegations of intimidating Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim, stating that a five-minute phone call took place without any threats. Syed Abu offered to make the contents of the call public and said that it was recorded, urging Awang to lodge a police report.
Awang had claimed in Parliament that he and his family were threatened by Syed Abu earlier on Thursday (Nov 30), following the Bukit Gantang MP’s support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (Nov 28).
Syed Abu predicts that between five to six more MPs from Bersatu will switch to Anwar’s allegiance. He acknowledged Awang’s dissatisfaction with his declared support for Anwar, suggesting that it is hypocritical for Perikatan MPs to support their own government but not for others to do the same.
Syed Abu advised Perikatan Nasional MPs to put aside their egos and negotiate for constituency development funds with the unity government, indicating that they should have done so when the government was ready to negotiate.
Syed Abu also criticized the behavior of Perikatan MPs in Parliament, stating that they should speak with more manners and avoid speaking rudely in public.
Recently, five Bersatu MPs, including Syed Abu, have switched allegiances to Anwar, with Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman stating that they did so to gain extra allocations for their constituencies.
Meanwhile, Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik expressed their support for the unity government to ensure development funds for their respective constituencies.
Bersatu leaders have claimed that there were agents enticing MPs to switch allegiances, but the five MPs who declared support for Anwar denied such allegations and stated that they supported the government based on their own free will.
