KUALA LUMPUR: The police have called nine witnesses as their investigation into the improvised explosive devices (IED) that were planted on lawyer Siti Kasim’s car continues. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has also been obtained.
City police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain stated in a text message to the media on Monday (July 24) that they are going through each CCTV recording from locations the victim had informed them about, and investigations are still ongoing.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was quoted by a Malay news portal earlier on Monday (July 24) as stating that the incident is suspected to be attempted murder. “The discovery of the bomb shows that it is a serious crime and the threat is akin to an attempted murder,” he told Harian Metro.
The explosives were discovered by the lawyer on July 21, underneath her car which was being serviced at a workshop in Bangsar. The police Bomb Squad safely removed the IED, and Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor stated at the scene that it would be sent for further analysis.
