KUALA LUMPUR: Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has been appointed as the new Bukit Aman CID director after a rigorous selection process, according to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The Inspector-General of Police said that Comm Mohd Shuhaily was not handpicked, and that he and three others were initially considered for the position. “I had a thorough discussion with Deputy IGP (Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay) on the choice of the Bukit Aman CID director before forwarding the names to the Home Minister,” said Razarudin.
He added, “It takes a while to appoint a new director as the procedures include going through the Police Force Commission.” This statement was made by Razarudin during a press conference at Bukit Aman on Tuesday (Aug 15).
The Bukit Aman CID director’s post had been left vacant after Ayob Khan was appointed as the Deputy IGP in June. Razarudin stated, “Comm Mohd Shuhaily was finally appointed given his vast experience, including in the Special Branch helming two state police contingents and even a stint as the police Security Liaison Officer in the United States.”
“He has done exceptionally well as the state police chief in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. I am confident he will give his commitment to improving the department further with the assistance of deputy directors and other senior officers in the CID,” he added.
The IGP mentioned that the new director will face various challenges, including the ever-changing crime landscape involving advancements in technology. “He has to keep up with the latest modus operandi used by criminals. On top of that, he has to prioritize aspects of integrity and good governance in the CID, outlined as one of my top priorities for the police force,” he added.
The country’s top cop emphasized that ultimately, Comm Mohd Shuhaily will have to lead by example. “It is the same message I always remind myself as well. We cannot achieve success by going at it alone. For me, I need the support of the Deputy IGP and all our directors to ensure public order and the safety of the people,” he said.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily officially starts his tenure as CID director on Monday, following a handing-over ceremony in Bukit Aman.
