KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has announced that a total of 372 police reports have been filed during the six state elections held thus far.
The Inspector-General of Police stated that as of August 1, Kedah had the highest number of police reports with 147, followed by Selangor with 133, Terengganu with 58, Negri Sembilan with 25, Kelantan with 5, and Penang with 4.
In addition, he mentioned that 24 investigation papers (IPs) have been opened during the same period.
These reports were lodged for various offences, including mischief, theft, slander, and violation of the Communication and Multimedia Act.
Tan Sri Razarudin gave examples of incidents that occurred in different states during the elections.
These incidents included the tearing of a political party’s banner in Kedah, theft of chairs from a political party headquarters in Negri Sembilan, and a slander case involving an election candidate in Terengganu.
The IGP emphasized that the police are committed to ensuring the safety of all individuals involved in the elections.
He stated, “We will take strict action against those who do not comply with the laws. We hope all candidates and their supporters will maintain political maturity throughout the campaign and avoid any unwanted incidents.”
