Private sector’s participation will see more discounts, rebates for consumers
PUTRAJAYA: Industries and private sector are joining the Rahmah initiative to provide greater savings for consumers dealing with the rising cost of living, according to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. The new inclusion for 2024 will be the Ihsan Rahmah initiative, offering discounts and rebates from certain companies and industries, which will be an industry-driven effort.
The discounts and rebate offers will be made through applications and discount cards, with more details to be announced once ready, the minister said after addressing the ministry’s staff. He also mentioned that several industry players and the private sector had expressed their interest to introduce cost-saving initiatives to the public, and their participation will see the Rahmah programme being expanded.
Armizan also disclosed that certain companies are planning to offer discounted meals for their staff members, with any additional cost being borne by the companies concerned. The Ihsan Rahmah programme will start once all loose ends have been tied up, and all Rahmah initiatives will continue as a national agenda that looks after the welfare of the people, he said.
Initiatives under the “Rahmah” banner, such as Jualan Rahmah, Menu Rahmah, Bakul Rahmah, Kafe Rahmah and Pakej Rahmah were carried out in 2023. In addition, the Rahmah sales programme will also be held during every festive season starting from this year, allowing consumers to obtain goods needed for their festive celebration at reasonable prices. A dedicated calendar will be created and available at the ministry’s website to inform the public of the Rahmah sales programme near them.
