KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian authorities have dismantled a human-trafficking network and apprehended 51 individuals without proper documentation in an operation known as Ops Gelombang V in Kota Baru, Kelantan, last Wednesday.
The Director-General of the Malaysian Immigration Department, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, stated that among those arrested were 43 Indian nationals, including four women, two Pakistani men, two Thai women, and four Thai boys. The individuals, ranging in age from two to 60, were apprehended during a raid at a budget hotel that the syndicate used as a transit point.
“Five local men, including the hotel owner, two caretakers, and two transporters, were also detained. All individuals, aged between 23 and 57, are suspected members of the syndicate,” he said in a recent statement.
The detained immigrants have been transferred to the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot, while the five local men have been placed in custody for six days to aid in the ongoing investigation, as reported by Bernama.
