The Immigration Department discovered an illegal settlement of undocumented Indonesian immigrants in the wilderness of Puncak Alam. Authorities arrested a total of 39 individuals as a result. This operation involved 110 officers and took place around 2am on Saturday, September 16.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 19, the director-general of Immigration, Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, revealed that out of the 95 foreigners inspected at the illegal settlement, 39 individuals – consisting of 14 men, 22 women, and three children – were found to be undocumented. These immigrants were immediately detained.
Ruslin explained that the raiding team encountered numerous challenges during the operation. They had to trek through the dark for 15 minutes until they reached the settlement, which was positioned in the middle of a forest in Puncak Alam. Additionally, the settlement was surrounded by cliffs and various passages that could serve as escape routes for the undocumented immigrants. Despite their attempts to flee, the authorities were able to effectively detain them by cordoning off the area.
The remaining 56 foreigners who were inspected had valid identification and work documents. Thus, they were not detained. Ruslin stated that the matter of the illegal settlement would be referred to the local authority for further action.
All individuals who were detained during the operation have been placed at the Immigration depot in Semenyih.
