KUANTAN: Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman stated that the implementation of the “Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith” appreciation module in secondary schools is believed to assist in molding better moral values among Muslim students. He emphasized that the hadith addresses all aspects of life such as matters of worship, manners, and socializing. The introduction of the module is beneficial as it provides exposure to students, unlike the current practice of mainly adults studying the hadith, as reported by Bernama on Wednesday (Aug 23).

The Education Ministry recently launched the module on Saturday (Aug 19) to foster the values of the Prophet Muhammad’s sayings or ‘hadith’ at the school level. Initially, the module will be implemented in National Religious Secondary Schools (SMKA) and Government Aided Religious Schools (SABK), and then expanded to other schools under the ministry in the following year. This move is considered proactive by the vice-chancellor of Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS), Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zawavi Zainal Abidin, who sees it as the government’s effort to elevate the field of hadith among the younger generation.

Amir Rozaini Ahmad Rani, the President of the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Piatu, Bentong, stated that students’ moral values can be shaped in accordance with Islamic teachings through the application of the basics of religious understanding presented in the module, despite the pervasive influence of the internet and social media. He emphasizes the importance of using simple language in the explanation of the hadith to ensure that the message is easily understood by students.

Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zawavi Zainal Abidin from UnIPSAS expressed support for the government’s initiative, as it fills a gap in terms of exposure to hadith, which is regarded as the second reference after the Quran. He also expressed readiness to provide assistance in the future, as it aligns with the university’s focus on empowering the field of hadith, according to Bernama.
