KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Ruji Ubi announced that the Immigration Department has collected nearly RM4bil in revenue this year through its various services and programmes. He mentioned that as of Aug 31, a total of RM3.7bil have been collected through the department’s services and programmes. “Among the services are collecting levies and through programmes such as the recalibration programme. The department will continue to be consistent in collecting revenue for the nation’s coffers,” he said during the graduation ceremony for Immigration cadets on Saturday (Sept 9).
In the period between Jan 1 and Aug 31 this year, a total of 40,259 undocumented immigrants and 203 employers were detained by the department. The department conducted 5,799 operations and inspected 66,551 individuals. “The aspect of security and law enforcement have always been the priority for Immigration and they are committed towards nabbing illegal foreigners,” he added.
Ruji stated that the ministry fully supports efforts by the Immigration to improve its human resources and organizational restructuring in order to increase more posts and enhance opportunities for promotion and career advancement. He also mentioned the graduation ceremony, which involved 301 cadets who underwent training from July 3 to Sept 9. “They will begin work on Monday (Sept 11) at various locations, including KL International Airport, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar in Johor, and various Immigration offices throughout the country, including at its headquarters,” he said.
