In Kuala Lumpur, a total of 59 illegal immigrants were apprehended in an Immigration Department operation named ‘Ops Sapu’ at 22 units of an apartment in Kepong on Saturday, March 23rd.

The Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department Director, Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff, disclosed that the 59 individuals captured comprised 37 men and 22 women from countries such as Myanmar, Indonesia, India, and Nepal.

These individuals were detained for violating the Immigration Act 1959/63 due to overstaying in the country and not possessing valid travel documents,” he stated during a meeting with reporters post-operation.

The operation was initiated following two weeks of intelligence gathering based on complaints from local residents.

Wan Mohammed Saupee mentioned that 25 summonses were issued to property owners for allegedly harboring and renting their premises to illegal immigrants.

Additionally, some of the arrested immigrants were discovered to be involved in selling counterfeit products.

He also indicated that they would be notifying the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs regarding this issue for further intervention.
