In Kuala Lumpur, the Immigration Department has taken down an online scam syndicate by apprehending six foreigners at a luxury condominium. Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff disclosed that the raid occurred at a luxury condominium located at Jalan U-Thant at approximately 4.30pm on Monday (April 25).
Following a complaint received regarding the establishment of a call center by foreigners at the said location, 36 personnel from the department, assisted by the Immigration Department Putrajaya Special Tactical Force, initiated the raid.
Multiple condominium units were raided and the documentation of 28 individuals was scrutinized. Out of these individuals, Wan Mohammed noted that six foreigners ranging between 35 to 57 years old from China and Myanmar were arrested for various offences. Additionally, a summons has been issued to the condominium owner to cooperate with the investigations.
The authorities suspect that several units in the condominium were being used as scam call centers for online investment schemes. They discovered laptops, computer screens, tablets, mobile phones, routers, and 11 passports in some of the units. When the individuals involved realized that enforcement personnel were on site, they attempted to flee through a window.
The apprehended individuals have since been taken to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot. Wan Mohammed emphasized that strict actions will be taken against premises owners and employers who harbor illegal immigrants and allow them to utilize their premises.
