KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between Umno and DAP members at the grassroots level ahead of the six state elections.
“It is normal for psychological warfare to occur during any election campaign,” Loke told reporters at the Women in Rail Conference 2023 in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Aug 3).
The Transport Minister, who is also the Seremban MP and Chennah assemblyman, was responding to queries regarding the level of support from the Umno machinery in Negri Sembilan for DAP candidates, as well as concerns over a perceived decrease in support for Pakatan Harapan in Penang.
“The most important thing is for the people to demonstrate their support on election day,” Loke emphasized.
“There is no need for excessive elaboration. Various psychological tactics will inevitably be employed in the lead-up to the election.
“We will focus on our work. In Negri Sembilan, the collaboration between Pakatan and Umno at the grassroots level is excellent.
“For instance, in Chennah, where I am running, the joint campaign is progressing well, and this is also evident in other areas,” he added.
Addressing a recent survey on voter sentiment in Penang, which indicated a 20% decline in support for Pakatan, Loke acknowledged the findings.
“We have taken note of the survey and will utilize it as a point of reference.
“The accuracy of the findings is subjective, but we are not taking anything for granted.
“It will motivate us to work harder as we approach the finish line, aspiring for a commendable performance by the unity government.
“Despite having governed Penang for three terms, we are aware of our strengths, yet we are not complacent. This display of caution is a positive sign.
“We continually remind our candidates that no victory is guaranteed,” he stressed.
