Two Teen Brothers Under Investigation for Stealing Emblem from Federal Court Judge’s Car
In Kuala Lumpur, a boy wanted to get a birthday gift for his brother, whose name happened to be Hakim. Instead of buying a gift, however, he decided to take one from a car. The emblem he took from the car had the word “Hakim” on it, and it was a judge’s car emblem. Now, the two brothers are facing trouble with the police for vandalizing a Federal Court judge’s car. The duo, both around 15 years old, took the emblem on Jan 7 after playing football near where the car had been parked along Taman Koperasi Polis Fasa Dua. The matter was noticed by the judge’s driver, who had just finished praying nearby.
“A complaint was received by the driver of an official car for a Federal Court judge after he found the vehicle had been scratched with a sharp object. The car’s number plate and judge’s emblem had also been removed,” Sentul police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari told a press conference at the district police headquarters. CCTV recordings from a nearby camera caught the duo in the act, which led to the police visiting the boys’ home in Batu Caves on Jan 8.
“The police seized two sets of clothes and a judge’s car emblem,” he said, adding that the two boys were not remanded. Investigations revealed that the younger of the duo thought that the emblem would be a good present for his older brother. Hakim is Malay for judge. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief that causes loss or damage.
In an unrelated incident, a man suffered minor head injuries when he attempted to stop an armed robber at an ATM room in a bank in Kepong. The armed robbery took place on Dec 27 after the complainant noticed a man walking inside the room with his helmet still on. “The complainant, who was working there at around 8pm, scolded the suspect for wearing a motorcycle helmet inside. However, the suspect then pointed a knife at the complainant. A scuffle ensued where the complainant was hit on the head with the back of the knife. He was then told to be quiet as the suspect robbed three other people who were in the room,” he said. The suspect fled with a waiting motorist outside the bank, while the complainant was taken to the hospital to treat his wounds.
Follow-up investigations resulted in arrests on Jan 4 and Jan 6 in separate locations in Perak and Pahang. Both suspects had addresses in the areas where they were arrested. They are also believed to have been active since 2020. “They would normally strike between night and early morning. They will stake out their targets coming and going from the ATM and then use that opportunity to strike. Both suspects have criminal records. With their arrests, we have solved six cases in Kuala Lumpur and 28 in Perak. Once we have concluded our investigations, we will hand over the two to Perak police for their side of the investigation,” said ACP Ahmad Sukarno.
