Sarawak PKR’s youth wing has criticized a rally held on Malaysia Day, stating that it was inappropriate and aimed at causing disunity. The rally, organized by Perikatan Nasional youth leaders, was seen as a disrespect to Malaysia Day celebrations and an attempt to disrupt them. While Sarawak PKR Youth acknowledges the right to assembly, it believes that Malaysia Day should not be marred by a demonstration that insults the country’s leaders.
The youth wing believes that holding a protest on a significant day like Malaysia Day is disrespectful and goes against the spirit of the occasion. Chiew Choon Man, the chief of Sarawak PKR Youth, stated that the protest was intended to divide the people, as mentioned in a recent statement. The Save Malaysia rally took place in downtown Kuala Lumpur from 1.15pm to 3.30pm and concluded with the lodging of a police report at the Dangi Wangi district police headquarters.
The purpose of the rally was to criticize the discharge not amounting to an acquittal that was granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on 47 graft charges. According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, the rally concluded without any untoward incident.
