KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Quah Perng Fei, a doctor who has been chosen to represent DAP in the Bandar Baru Klang constituency, is eager to continue serving the residents there. The 49-year-old candidate will be contesting for the seat previously held by DAP veteran and lawyer Datuk Teng Chang Khim.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity, considering my experience as a councillor in the Klang Municipal Council,” stated Dr Quah.
In addition, Papparaidu Veraman, a Shah Alam City (MBSA) councillor, will be contesting in Banting, which was previously held by Lau Weng San. Papparaidu, 48, is the younger brother of Klang MP V. Ganabatirau.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the DAP leadership for giving me this chance. I have gained extensive experience as a councillor in Kota Kemuning over the past 13 years,” said Papparaidu.
Dr Quah and Papparaidu are among the six new candidates selected by DAP for the upcoming Selangor state election on August 12.
The other new candidates include Yew Jia Haur (Teratai), Ong Chun Wei (Balakong), Preakas Sampunathan (Kota Kemuning), and Lwi Kian Keong (Sungai Pelek).
Anthony Loke, the DAP secretary-general, announced the list of candidates yesterday. He revealed that the most senior candidate is Lee Kee Hiong, aged 57, who will be defending her seat in Kuala Kubu Baharu. The youngest candidate is Michelle Ng, aged 33, who will be vying for reelection in Subang Jaya.
“Ten out of the 15 candidates are men, while the remaining five are women. Additionally, 40% of the candidates are new faces. The younger candidates bring with them valuable experience. We aim to field candidates who can secure victory in all our constituencies, including the incumbents,” stated Loke during a press conference at the DAP headquarters.
The majority of the 15 DAP candidates are under the age of 50, with an average age of 43.6 years. None of the candidates are above 60 years old.
Aside from Lee and Michelle Ng, the other incumbents seeking reelection are Ng Suee Lim (Sekinchan), Wong Siew Ki (Seri Kembangan), Ng Sze Han (Kinrara), Rajiv Rishyakaran (Bukit Gasing), Lim Yi Wei (Kampung Tunku), Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama), and Leong Tuck Chee (Pandamaran).
Former assemblymen who will not be contesting in the upcoming election are Teng, Ean Yong Hian Wah (Seri Kembangan), Ganabatirau (Kota Kemuning), Lau Weng San (Banting), Ronnie Liu (Sungai Pelek), and Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof (Dusun Tua).
