In KUCHING, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof noted that the exports of crude palm oil (CPO) to India are on a positive trajectory, with India’s demand for CPO reaching six million tonnes. As the Plantation and Commodities Minister, Fadillah said his ministry is in the process of determining the necessary steps to meet India’s demand.

Currently, Malaysia is only able to export about four million tonnes to India, making India the largest importer of Malaysia’s CPO. Fadillah emphasized the need to explore alternative markets and not rely solely on one country for CPO exports.

Speaking to reporters after an informal chat session with oil palm smallholders, Fadillah discussed India’s request to increase CPO exports to six million tonnes, indicating that the necessary steps are being detailed.

Regarding China’s commitment to the oil palm industry in Malaysia, Fadillah highlighted the potential for close cooperation in producing commodity-based products to enhance CPO exports to China.

He also mentioned the collaboration between Malaysia and China in producing Vitamin A capsules and plant-based meat products, noting the agreement on the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil Certification (MSPO) as a significant advantage for Malaysia.
