IPOH: A 44-year-old Indian tourist named Nandan Suresh Nadkarni has been reported missing since Sept 22. It is believed that he went hiking at Gunung Jasar in Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands. Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Azri Ramli stated that Nadkarni checked in to Hikers Sleep Port Guest House in Tanah Rata on Sept 19 and was expected to check out on Sept 24. However, on Sept 25, the hotel manager filed a police report about Nadkarni’s disappearance.

CCTV footage from the hotel revealed that Nadkarni left the hotel on Sept 22 at 9am and did not return by Sept 24. Preliminary investigations indicate that on Sept 22, he embarked on a solo hiking trip along Trail 10 of Gunung Jasar in Tanah Rata, as seen in CCTV footage obtained in the area. As a result, a control post was set up at the scene by the police, and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was initiated with the involvement of various agencies, including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), and different non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

DSP Azri advised the public to refrain from speculating about the incident and requested that anyone with information contact the motion control room (DCC) at 05-491 5999 or visit the nearest police station. Furthermore, he urged the public not to share unverified information. The SAR operation resumed at 8am on Sept 28, in which mountain rangers and tracking dogs were deployed alongside other agencies. The last signal from Nadkarni’s phone, based on information from Maxis roaming, was detected through the Habu Height substation at 1.04pm on Sept 22. SAR members are also utilizing drones to monitor the waterfall area around Sungai Ubi,” said Zulfadli Zakaria, Pahang JBPM public relations officer. – Bernama
