During a special operation by the Transport Department (JPJ) on motorcycles along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway at Bertam Malim in Melaka on Wednesday night (Sept 13), two motorists caused a commotion.

In the first incident, an Indonesian motorcyclist and his girlfriend who was riding pillion tried to evade a roadblock set up by JPJ on both sides of the road. However, the enforcement officers were able to stop them by intercepting their attempt to tailgate a car to escape the officers. The pair, both in their 20s, were caught when they reached the checkpoint. When asked to produce a driving license, the male rider admitted that he did not possess a valid one. The female passenger claimed to be the owner of the motorcycle, but her name was not listed as the owner, prompting the enforcement officers to confiscate the motorcycle and refer the couple to the Melaka Immigration Department.

In the second incident, an Indonesian woman caused an accident when she panicked upon seeing the roadblock while JPJ senior enforcement director, Datuk Lokman Jamaan, was present. The woman’s car swerved onto the opposite side of the road and collided with another car waiting to cross the roadblock. Thankfully, the woman’s six-year-old son, who was with her at the time, and the female driver of the other car both escaped unharmed. The woman, who is married to a local, explained that she panicked when she saw the roadblock and accidentally ended up on the opposite side of the road.

During the operation, Lokman also instructed his officers to issue a summons to a nurse who was riding her motorcycle without road tax and insurance coverage. The nurse informed Lokman that she was heading home after completing her night shift at a hospital in the area.
