An eight-month-old girl in Kuala Lumpur died after being left in a car for several hours. Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin stated that the incident occurred just before 6pm on Thursday (Oct 5). According to the medical officer of Hospital Chanselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM, the infant was brought in unconscious from the hospital parking lot and sadly passed away on the same day, as reported in a statement on Friday (Oct 6).
Investigations revealed that the victim’s mother, who is a doctor at the hospital, had placed her daughter in the rear passenger seat around 7.20am to send her to a nursery. Unfortunately, the mother went straight to work assuming her daughter had already been sent to the nursery without knowing she was still in the car. The mother only realized her mistake when her husband called in the evening, stating that their daughter had not been sent to the nursery.
As a result, ACP Zam Halim mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for negligence. The mother’s statement will be taken after the child’s funeral.
